The NDIS is all about helping people with disabilities live better lives. It provides funding for things like spending more time with family and friends, gaining independence, learning new skills, finding jobs or volunteer opportunities, and just enjoying life more. MyChoice Psychology supports Plan-managed & Self-managed NDIS plans.

What is the NDIS?

The National Disability Insurance Scheme is Australia's first nationwide scheme dedicated to supporting individuals with disabilities. It offers financial assistance to eligible individuals facing significant disabilities that impact their daily needs. Plus, it helps connect people to all kinds of services in their community, like doctors, sports clubs, support groups, libraries, and schools.

Right now, the NDIS is supporting over 500,000 Aussies with disabilities, including around 80,000 kids who need early assistance.

How does a Psychologist help individuals under the NDIS scheme?

A Psychologist can play a pivotal role in offering specialised support to individuals grappling with mental health challenges. Under the NDIS scheme, non-clinical support may be included in your plan to help with your specific needs.
This might look like capacity building and social, community and civic participation supports, such as:

  • Sessions designed to enhance your motivation, focus, knowledge, and skills, as well as to build resilience and improve decision-making abilities, ultimately enabling greater independence in your daily activities.
  • Assistance in navigating broader mental health and healthcare systems, as well as other relevant services, to ensure that the support you receive beyond the NDIS is tailored to your needs and aids in achieving your recovery objectives.
  • Support in fostering positive connections with family, friends, and other individuals in your social circle.

The NDIS Funding Criteria provides details on eligibility and the assessment process with the NDIS.
